Nathaniel M. Kirkland Scholar: Anisha James

I was ecstatic to learn that I was the recipient of the Nathaniel Kirkland Scholarship. I am honored to receive this scholarship and I appreciate the opportunity to share more about how this scholarship will help me to achieve my future goals. 

​I will be attending the Community College of Philadelphia in the fall. My decision to attend community college was not an easy choice seeing as though I originally had different plans. However, beginning at community college seems to be the best starting point on my road to success. With my financial background, community college seems to be the best financial fit, as it allows me to earn the same general education credits as a four-year institution at a more affordable rate. I am considering transferring to local schools in the area such as Temple University, La Salle University, and Thomas Jefferson University.

​​Receiving the Nathaniel Kirkland Scholarship means the world to me. Hearing Nathaniel’s story and all that he accomplished at such a young age gave me the motivation to aim higher and keep moving forward to the best of my abilities. Seeing how involved he was in the community has inspired me to go out and do more for others and my community. He showed me that there are people out there who are still willing to give back to the community and are willing to help others progress in achieving their goals and dreams. With this scholarship, I feel as if I am one step closer to my goals. I feel more motivated than ever to have people who see and acknowledge my hard work and dedication and are willing to invest in my future. I truly am thankful, and I hope that one day I will be able to help students achieve their goals or help them on the right track as you have helped me. Once again thank you for such a great honor and your generosity.
