TERRELL L. BRUCE MEMORIAL FUND

Standing 5 feet tall, in front of a grand jury, presenting my case on why my client should be proven innocent. The argument between me and the prosecutor is intense, but i'm not backing down, he states circumstantial evidence but I have knowledge up my sleeve. The judge sends the jury to make their decision, 2 hours later they read the verdict, not guilty. The victory is mine, and I conquered another case. The dream feels so real but there is a lot more that needs to be done before I can actually reach those steps.

Working as a volunteer in my community and high school opened my eyes to many things, being able to participate in things that people wish they could do, made me have a better understanding of life and where I want to be. The ability to speak to business partners on subjects that pertain to young children like me is a shape shifting impact, because they not only listen to us but make our dreams come true. Furthermore the networking experience that we get, I had a chance to sit down with children from Liberia and talk to them, tour the Mayor around my school, and also had an opportunity to intern at Stradley Ronon and Young law firm. It was a great experience working alongside lawyers and seeing what they do.

I am honored to be one of the recipients of the Nathaniel M. Kirkland Scholarship, not only will it allow me to go to college, but it will allow me to further my future. To be able to become a young lady who had many dreams, but can now put them all into perspective, by attending East Stroudsburg University and major in Political Science.
This dream of mine had been burning inside, and I will press on until I reach my final destination. I will also be a leader on campus by participating in OMA which is known as Office of Multicultural Affair, and with that I will take action in community service and start new initiatives which cater to students of color. I will also be a residence assistant, to help guide other students who might need help and need someone to talk too. Lastly I plan on studying abroad; travel to different countries to explore other cultures and serve alongside their citizens to promote exchanges of ideas and to broaden my horizons.

I am looking forward to getting a degree in political science, which will serve as the foundation for my law school experience, and become a defense attorney. To whom much is given, much is expected and I will exceed all expectations. Thank you so much once again for the opportunity!
